Scheduling Vacation Leave
In order for vacation leave to be authorized, an employee must give at least 14 days prior notice to his or her Department Head. Notice may be waived by the employee's Department Head on a case-by-case basis. Department Heads will attempt to develop vacation schedules as early as possible during the calendar year so as to minimize disruptions and other work-related problems. Vacation days requested generally will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, taking into consideration the operational needs of the Authority. Employees may take vacation leave in one-half hour increments with advance approval from their direct supervisor. An employee may take at maximum, two weeks of continuous vacation leave, unless extenuating circumstances apply and the Department Head approves a longer request or if the Executive Director makes the discretionary decision to allow a longer request.
Scheduling Sick Leave
An employee is not eligible to take sick leave until it is earned. When sick leave is taken, Saturdays, Sundays, and Authority holidays will not be charged against earned sick leave. There is no limit on the amount of sick leave earned or sick leave you may carry over each calendar year.
